Emerging Leaders of the Americas Program (ELAP)

Scholarships for study / research in Canada, for students from eligible Latin American and Caribbean countries:

  • Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos;
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama;
  • North America: Mexico; or
  • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela.

The ELAP Program is funded by the Government of Canada to help train the next generation in Latin America, and strengthen collaboration between Canadian and Latin American institutions.  The scholarship value is CAD 8,200 for 4 months (one academic term), for college, undergraduate, or graduate students.  Another award in the amount of CAD 11,100 is for graduate students only, for 5-6 months.  Awards can be used for study or research.  Full-time students must be enrolled at eligible institutions who have an existing collaboration or exchange agreement with a Canadian institution. Applications open in February and are due in March each year,  for exchanges beginning in July or the Fall semester of the next academic year.  Contact your international office for more information.  

The deadline for 2022-23 is March 22, 2022.  Each Canadian institution may have its own internal deadline, usually 1-2 weeks before the official deadline.
