Mitacs
Mitacs “builds partnerships between academia, industry and the world.” As a Canadian not-for-profit organization, Mitacs manages several research funding and training programs for undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Although most programs are for students enrolled at Canadian universities, eligibility by program varies, and some programs include inbound international students and post-doctoral fellows. Visit the Mitacs website for more information at www.mitacs.ca.
The Mitacs Globalink Research Award program offers a 6,000 (3-6 months) / 12,000 (6-12 months) award to students and post-doctoral fellows , to support research and travel to academic institutions between Canada and most countries around the globe (including Latin America and the Caribbean) – exceptions are institutions located in countries or regions classified as “Avoid all travel” or “Avoid non-essential travel” by the Government of Canada, these would be deemed ineligible. Students and post-doctoral fellows develop and conduct a collaborative research project at a host institution of higher education, under the supervision of their home and host supervisor. Travel can be in either direction – inbound to Canada, outbound to Latin America. Host supervisors must be recognized as faculty members at their institution.
There are two streams: standard (allocation), and the Quantum technologies initiative. The standard stream is subject to the allocation limit assigned to the participating Canadian institution. Currently, there is no limit on the number of Quantum proposals that can be accepted. In most cases, proposals may be submitted on an OPEN CALL basis, at least 4 months before the desired start date. Individual Canadian institutions may manage the program differently (e.g. through internal calls or strategic programs).
